Painted in egg tempera, an ancient technique where pigment is bound with egg yolk. Its luminous quality gives the work a stillness that feels almost like memory.
The chair represents a person, a place that should feel held and supported. The star represents something we have always wished for from someone we love. A gesture, an act of care, a dream fulfilled. Something we quietly expect them to give us.
But the chair is broken.
There is a tension between what we long for and what we are given, between tenderness and the forces that can shape a person before they have the power to resist them.
The work doesn't tell us what happened to the chair, or who broke it.
Perhaps it doesn't need to.
The star remains. A reminder of the things we still hope to receive from the people we love.
